Tennessee Issues Compact Privileges
Compact status checked 2026-10-08 against counselingcompact.gov
Tennessee is a Counseling Compact member and is issuing privileges to practice as of September 1, 2026. A counselor who lives in another live member state and holds an unencumbered independent license there can apply through CompactConnect for a Tennessee privilege instead of a full Tennessee license. The privilege costs the Commission's $30 fee plus Tennessee's own $180, and it follows your home license: if that lapses, so does the privilege.
Compact status moves: states go live on their own schedules, and ten were issuing privileges in October 2026 against forty members. This page reflects our last check, not a live feed, so confirm a state's status before relying on it.
Getting a Tennessee Privilege
A home-state license at the independent level, unencumbered, in a member state that is issuing privileges
Residence in that home state (the privilege follows where you live, not where you were first licensed)
The $30 Commission fee plus Tennessee's privilege fee ($180)
You complete and submit the CompactConnect application yourself; nobody can file it for you
What Catches Counselors Out
Moving changes your home state: the privileges you hold are tied to it, so plan a move before renewing anything
Some states add a jurisprudence exam to the privilege; budget the time for it
We get you ready for the Tennessee privilege, then sit with you while you file it.
Eligibility audit, jurisprudence prep where the state requires it, a guided CompactConnect session, and renewal tracking tied to your home license.
